Oakville Makes “The Sporting News” Top 400 Sport Cities in North America
The Sporting News’ magazine released their 2009 Top 400 Sport Cities in North America with Oakville making the list as 309th. While this placing may seem far down the list, there are only 9 Canadian cities on the list:
- Toronto (36)
- Vancouver (39)
- Calgary (42)
- Montreal (45)
- Edmonton (53)
- Ottawa (54)
- Oakville (309)
- Winnipeg (313)
- Hamilton (325)
Oakville, whose population is well below that of the other Canadian cities, does not have any professional teams. However, Oakville has produced and continues to produce a number of high profile professional, collegiate and world-class athletes. Home to many regionally, provincially and nationally ranked amateur sporting organizations, Oakville has an abundance of recreational and sporting facilities which guarantees access to athletes at all levels to develop their skills from “playground to podium”.
Congratulations to all of our great sporting community!
